Historic cemetery with the entrance ensemble painted by Caspar David Friedrich and graves of artists, musicians and scholars.
After the epidemics of 1813–1814, a new cemetery was planned outside the city. Gottlob Friedrich Thormeyer laid it out in 1815–1816. Following its extension in 1834 it acquired its present name, and its entrance and graves link it to Dresden’s artistic history.
